WILLIAM BECTON

Trendsetting, Billboard chart-topping producer, singer and songwriter William Becton is an artist who has garnered iconic status in Gospel music.  As one of the first “crossover” gospel artists to merge inspirational lyrics with urban sounds, Becton’s songwriting prowess proved to be a ground-breaking and bold creative innovation that propelled him to prominence.

The journey began in 1995 with his critically acclaimed debut album BROKEN.  The album peaked at #1 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums Charts for over 11 weeks. The album boasted the Gospel radio block-buster single and R&B Top 40 Radio cross-over hit “Be Encouraged.”

Throughout the years Becton would continue to write dynamic contemporary Gospel music intermingled with soul and R&B charm.  HEART OF A LOVE SONG (CGI Records/A&M) was released in 1997, and B2K: PROPHETIC SONGS OF PROMISE (CGI Records/CGI Platinum) in 2000. Both albums also soared to the Top 10 on the Billboard Gospel Albums chart, further establishing Becton’s inscription as a creative force in Gospel music. 

In 2001 realizing the ongoing need to create music that speaks to the heart and encourages the soul, Becton wrote and produced BROKEN II (BECTHOVEN’S MELODIES). The project was a fan favorite! While the music was a mixture of many urban sounds, the lyrics were unmistakably Gospel, exposing Becton’s prowess to reveal the heart of worship. 

Later that year William Becton was ordained as a Pastor in the Harvest International Ministerial Fellowship Inc.  Surprisingly, he stepped out of the spotlight at the height of his career and shifted his focus to the teaching of the Gospel. During this sabbatical from recording he relocated from Washington, DC to Charlotte, NC. It was there that he continued his education by earning a Master’s Degree in Theology from Life Christian University.

After a time of refreshing, he began writing and producing again with renewed spiritual vigor. Becton celebrated 25 years of the legendary Be Encouraged single in 2020, with the release of "Be Encouraged 2020 Remix".  

In 2021, Becton remade the 1980’s classic "Set Me On Fire," which encourages listeners to seek the fire of God that burns within the soul of every Spirit filled believer.  "Set Me On Fire" features guest vocalist Stef (Stephanie McLain), Becton's protégée, and artist on his Becthoven Music Group, LLC label.  

His new single, “In The Morning,” (from the forthcoming project BROKEN III), is a remake and remix of his 2000 classic “Joy In The Morning.”  Becton combines elements from Gospel Quartet and Choral sounds to create a masterpiece with long time WB&F vocalist Trumond Lee and the original lead vocal performed by Scot Moore.  “In The Morning” is a foot-stomping and hand-clapping gem that will encourage all ages.  Listeners will be encouraged from the first beat to the last phrase, “You’re gonna smile again!”
